Henderson County Public Library Director Caleb May is now suing the library and its five board of trustees members after being placed on administrative leave in June.

May filed a $2 million lawsuit against HCPL and each board member for placing him on leave, which he says was retaliation for exercising his freedom of expression in regard to current political topics as a private citizen.

In June, the HCPL Board of Trustees voted 5 to 0 to place May on paid administrative leave until his contract expired at the end of August due to a post on May's personal Facebook page that sparked controversy online.
