Honor Flight of Southern Indiana is preparing for another unique event, inspired by pandemic challenges.

Last year, HFSI delivered 1,000 care packages to veterans across the Tri-State. This year, they are planning a special parade.

Since March 2020, four HFSI flights have been canceled. It has left several hundred Southern Indiana veterans waiting for the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C.

Happening later this month, HFSI is organizing a Heroes Gratitude Drive-Thru Parade to ensure those veterans know they are appreciated and remembered.

The event is planned for Saturday, October 23rd from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Vanderburgh 4-H Center. The community is invited to line the route to salute the veterans driving through the parade. Signs, banners, and flags are encouraged.

Monday, volunteers put together the 350 goodie bags that will be given to veterans during the event. They are full of items donated by the community like a free Mission BBQ sandwich coupon.

For more information on the parade visit Honor Flight of Southern Indiana's Facebook page.

Wow!!!! It's cold!!!! After a trace of snow in Evansville and some highe amounts to the south, we're waking up to temperatures in the mid to upper teens across the Tri-State. Thankfully, road crews did a fantastic job treating the roads to keep conditions from getting slick. However, the northerly winds gusting as high as 15 to 20 mph has dropped wind chill values into the single digits and even below zero in our western communities. There won't be much of an improvement in temperatures this afternoon. With the strong northerly wind flow and dry skies our highs will only reach the mid to upper 20s. Winds will stay quite breezy keeping the wind chill factor in place through the day.
