250 elementary and middle school students in area summer programs received a new bicycle, helmet, and bike lock on Monday at Bosse Field.

In addition to the standard bikes, two adaptive bicycles that are specifically designed for children who are physically unable to ride a standard bicycle were given away.

"These bikes sometimes make a difference in a young child's life, they really do," said Event Coordinator Chris Kiefer. "It gives them the opportunity to get out, get fresh air and exercise, and just do positive things."

The bicycles were presented to students by donors, representatives from public safety agencies, the EVSC, local dignitaries, and community leaders.

Students were able to receive the items through Ivy Tech's annual "Public Safety Academy," which is funded through donations from individuals and businesses across the Tri-State.

We woke up to dry and cold conditions this Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, there won’t be any drastic changes this afternoon. Increasing cloud cover will be likely as a cold northerly flow continues ushering in chilly air. Highs won’t be going very far, we’ll likely only reach the mid to upper 30s Tri-State wide. We’re tracking a little bit of winter weather out to our north and west. Skies will be mostly cloudy tonight with a chance of flurries/light rain. It won't be a big snow by any stretch, but you could see some flurries flying Tuesday night into Wednesday morning around the Tri-State. Don't expect more than a dusting, with greater chances falling north of I-64.
