The Indiana Department of Transportation Southwest division says its crews are in the process of removing the Pigeon Creek Bridge in Evansville, Indiana.
An update shared by INDOT Southwest on Thursday shows the well-known Evansville bridge laid across the creek bed with crews at work.
"The Pigeon Creek Bridge in Evansville is coming down this week," INDOT Southwest said. "The replacement is underway with dirt and grade work continuing until this winter."
INDOT's decision to replace the bridge came after an extensive review of damage caused to the bridge by a semi-truck hitting it in January of 2020.
INDOT Southwest says the new bridge's construction is expected to begin next spring.
