Illinois Governor JB Pritzker made some major announcements in the state's fight against COVID-19 on Thursday.

According to Gov. Pritzker, all school staff throughout the state will now be required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. This includes school staff in all K-12 facilities as well as staff in higher education facilities like colleges and universities, according to the governor.

The new vaccine requirement will also apply to all healthcare workers, like those in nursing homes, hospitals, urgent care, and doctors' offices.

"In Illinois, vaccines will be required for all P-12 teachers and staff, all higher education personnel, all higher education students, and healthcare workers in a variety of settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, urgent care facilities, and physicians' offices," the governor said.

Gov. Pritzker says that as of Sept. 5, any of those individuals who are still unvaccinated will be required to be tested for COVID-19 at least once a week, and that more frequent testing may be required under certain circumstances like a COVID-19 outbreak.

Additionally, the governor said Thursday that masks would once again be mandated for all individuals throughout the state while in an indoor setting, regardless of vaccination status. That mask requirement will go into effect on Monday, Aug. 30.

Gov. Pritzker made those announcements in a special press conference held Thursday morning with health officials from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The combination of sunshine and southerly winds will make for another abnormally mild day throughout the Ohio Valley - expect an afternoon high temperature near 69° this afternoon. Friday evening looks as though it will be just as pleasant; after seeing the upper 60s earlier in the day, we'll dip to 60° by 5 PM before falling towards 54° around 7 o’clock. We are however, watching a passing low pressure system and accompanying cold front that is expected to pass through the Tri-State late Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
