Investigators say the gruesome murder happened in July on N. County Road 575.
66-year-old Sharon Fox was found dead at the bottom of her steps according to the Pike Sheriffs Office.
Court records say the 66-year-old woman laid in the same position four days before being discovered by a Pike County Deputy.
"Its pretty scary, that gentleman was arrested in my hometown this morning" says Angela Leinenbach Vogler.
Police say 64-year-old Edward Alan Fox was arrested Monday October 5, in connection to the death of his estranged wife, Sharon Fox.
"I feel like they cared about each other and things maybe went south" adds Leinenbach Vogler.
The 19 page probable cause affidavit paints a different picture. The 66-year-old victim told a judge earlier this year she suffered from domestic abuse for more than 35 years. The couple was going through a messy divorce. An emergency protective order was granted.
Law enforcement had been dispatched to the home several times in the past.
"Our police try so hard, but there is only so much you can do, like the instance in Petersberg, where the lady laid there" says Leinenbach Vogler.
Edward Fox told police he watched his estranged wife play on her tablet outside her bedroom window for 45 minutes.
Police say on or around July 17, Edward Fox forced his way into his soon to be ex-wife's home.
Investigators say Edward pushed Sharon down the stairs leading to the cellar, 9 wooden steps. Detectives say he staged her death.
Autopsy results concluded she died from a broken neck. According to court records Sharon Fox's body was laying in an awkward position.
The victim's family insists she has mobility issues and does not use stairs, adding the elderly woman used a cane to get around.
"I hope he goes to jail and have some time to think but gets saved" says Leinenbach Vogler.
After waiting months on forensics evidences to be processed, Indiana State Police charged Edward Fox with, Murder, two counts of Burglary, Forcible Residential Entry and Resisting Arrest.
Edward Fox is currently behind bars without bond at the Pike County Jail.
Fox is set to go in front of a Pike County Judge Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 2:30 in the afternoon.
