Some Kentucky drivers just west of our area may have spotted a new piece of equipment clearing highways of snow. It is called a tow plow and it is new to Kentucky.
It allows one truck to clear two lanes of traffic. The tow plow is being used in eastern Kentucky counties where the state saw the harshest conditions. Secretary of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Jim Gray says this winter storm has affected much more than road conditions.
"Many are without power in their own homes, especially in the eastern, northeastern portions of the state. Boyd County workers couldn't get home Monday and spent the night in the maintenance facility," Secretary Gray said.
2,000 transportation employees are still working to get the state back up and running. It's not just snow causing problems, ice along with downed power lines and trees causing major issues.
Locally, main roads are mostly cleared, but side roads are still snow covered.
