Four lifeguards are being recognized after a scary situation that happened in Owensboro over the weekend.
On Sunday, emergency crews were sent to Combest Pool in response to a water emergency, after a 9-year-old girl was reportedly not breathing.
Before those first responders could arrive, four lifeguards working at the pool were able to pull the swimmer to safety and perform CPR.
Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department Director Amanda Rogers says she's very proud of the quick actions taken by those lifeguards.
"I'm very proud of the young people that were involved," Rogers said. "The actions they took, how they followed protocol, how hard they worked to make sure they could resuscitate the young lady in this situation
"What was a tough and scary situation for all - it proved that these young people do adhere to their training," Rogers continued.
After the life-saving measures taken by those lifeguards, the young girl was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
She was later transferred to Louisville for further evaluation, but we're told she had non-life-threatening injuries.
