A Madisonville man is on the run after police say he fled from a traffic stop and struck a detective with his vehicle on Tuesday afternoon.

The Madisonville Police Department says the incident began on Tuesday around 4:00 p.m. when detectives with the Madisonville/Hopkins County VICE/Narcotics Unit attempted to initiate a traffic stop on 25-year-old Matthew Lynn of Madisonville, Kentucky.

MPD says detectives attempted to stop Lynn in Nortonville. As a detective was walking up to Lynn's vehicle to speak with him, the vehicle swerved toward the detective, striking the detective with its back tire.

Detectives then began to pursue Lynn through the city limits of Nortonville onto Red Hill Road.

At the time of the pursuit, Red Hill Road was closed due to swift waters moving across the roadway, causing detectives to call off the pursuit for the safety of other motorists.

MPD says detectives later found Lynn's vehicle abandoned several miles in a wooded area off of Stone Chapel Road.

A search warrant for the vehicle was obtained, and detectives say that inside it, they found four AR-style rifles, two handguns, two shotguns, and several hundred rounds of armor-piercing ammo.

  • Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (Police Officer)
  • Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (Police Officer)
  • Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
  • Trafficking Marijuana 8oz-5Lbs (Weapon Enhanced)

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Matthew Lynn should contact Hopkins County Crime Stoppers or Hopkins County Central Dispatch.
