According to Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton, the City of Madisonville "will be moving forward with Halloween as planned."

Mayor Cotton says Halloween activities will take place in the city from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 31.

The Madisonville mayor discussed the city's plans for Halloween during his city and county update with Hopkins County Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield.

Mayor Cotton addressed the October holiday after receiving many questions on the topic and said that ultimately, the choice is up to area parents/guardians.

"If you are not comfortable taking your children out to go trick-or-treating, then that's okay," Mayor Cotton said. "If you're uncomfortable handing candy out, that is okay as well - don't do that. Turn your light off and don't answer the door."

"However," he continued, "If you are comfortable in both taking your children out for trick-or-treating and for handing out candy on Halloween, there is a website called halloween2020.org. It's a great resource for some really creative Halloween activities for things to do at home for those that aren't going to go trick-or-treating, and for those that are going to be participating in trick-or-treating, so check that out."

"If the governor comes in with some different restrictions or regulations that we're gonna have to follow then we will update you on that," said Mayor Cotton. "But right now, we will be moving forward with Halloween as planned from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on the 31st."
