An Evansville man is behind bars on charges of Burglary, Confinement, and Intimidation after a woman told police he threatened her and kept her inside of her apartment against her will.
Police first responded to a holdup in progress at some apartments on N. Third Avenue on Wednesday. Once on scene, a neighbor pointed the officers to the apartment unit in question.
After knocking on the door and giving verbal commands, police say they made forcible entry into the apartment, where they made contact with a man identified as 47-year-old Pedro Diaz of Evansville.
According to police, Diaz was detained and removed from the apartment. Officers then spoke with a woman inside the apartment who said Diaz didn't have permission to be there and that he was holding her there against her will.
The woman told police that Diaz made threats against her and that she was too afraid to try and leave.
When Diaz was taken in to the Vanderburgh County Jail, police say he stated that if officers hadn't shown up, he would have killed the victim.
Diaz remains in the Vanderburgh County Jail on no bond.
