An Illinois man is in jail on several charges including attempted murder of a police officer.
The Daviess County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to a welfare check for a man walking in the roadway on Veach Road Friday night.
Deputies say 31-year-old Josh Cliff of Decatur, Illinois was not cooperative with deputies.
The Sheriff's Office says Cliff assaulted a deputy and attempted to flee the scene.
We're told almost immediately after deputies were able to get Cliff into handcuffs and still struggling with him, Cliff produced a handgun which he had concealed.
Authorities say upon further search discovered what was believed to be cocaine on Cliff.
One deputy was taken to the hospital to be treated for a possible broken nose.
Cliff was booked in the Daviess County Detention Center and is facing several charges including Murder-Police Officer (attempted), Resisting Arrest, Assault 3rd Police Officer, Poss. Handgun by convicted felon.
Kentucky State Police and the Owensboro Police Department both responded to assist deputies.
