An Evansville man was arrested for Battery Against a Public Safety Official and Traffic Obstruction near Deaconess Hospital.

35-year-old Jason Fairchild was being transported to Deaconess by ambulance. The hospital staff was notified that Fairchild was violent and intoxicated leading to the need for an EPD officer to be nearby.

Vanderburgh County Jail

According to EPD, Fairchild was yelling and cursing at medical staff, so the officer on-scene asked him to leave the area if he did not want to be treated.

The officer says Fairchild approached him in an aggressive manner, so he placed his hand out in front of him to keep Fairchild at a safe distance - only for Fairchild to hit the officer's hand away and continue yelling.

Police say Fairchild then walked onto Columbia Street and stopped a car in the middle of the road.

The EPD officer says he tried to remove Fairchild from the middle of the roadway when Fairchild tried to punch the officer.

Fairchild was then forcibly taken into custody after refusing to comply and was transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail after being medically cleared.

He's charged with Battery Against a Public Safety Official, Obstruction of Traffic, and Disorderly Conduct.

After a damp start to our Monday, the rain and skies gradually cleared for many of us and we were left with a pleasant and breezy, albeit humid afternoon throughout the Tri-State. The southerly winds paired with the clearer skies later in the day helped drive temperatures back into mid to low 80s for many of us. The evening ahead should remain dry and mild; after seeing temperatures around 80° dinnertime and 75° by 10PM, we'll fall off to a morning low near 69° in Evansville early Tuesday morning.
