A French Lick man was hospitalized after a fiery crash in Dubois County on Monday.

The Dubois County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened around 2:00 p.m. on Monday on US 231, just south of Haysville, Indiana.

DCSO says 59-year-old Barry Nicholson of French Lick was driving on the highway when he believes he fell asleep at the wheel. After leaving the roadway and striking a tree, Nicholson's vehicle immediately caught fire and came to a stop.

The sheriff's office says Nicholson was assisted on-scene by several people who stopped to help and call 911.

Nicholson's injuries aren't believed to be life-threatening, but he was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital.

US 231 was closed for a little over an hour while the scene was cleared.

The Haysville Fire Department, Memorial EMS, Jasper Police Department, Uebelhor and Sons wrecker service, and DCSO responded to the incident.
