Two people were killed and several others injured in a Thursday afternoon crash on I-69 in Dawson Springs, Kentucky.
The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office says its deputies responded to the two-vehicle crash around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. When they got there, deputies found two vehicles sitting in the southbound lanes.
The sheriff's office says 26-year-old Kara Smith of Paducah was driving down I-69 when for unknown reasons, her vehicle veered off into the inside shoulder and into the median, causing her to lose control and strike a truck driven by 30-year-old Kevin Emily of Benton.
According to HCSO, 31-year-old Jacob Jarred of Dresden, Tennessee, was inside the car with Smith at the time of the crash, along with Smith's two kids.
Jarred and one of the children in the car were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.
Smith and the other child in her car were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition. The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The southbound lane of I-69 was closed for around four hours while crews worked the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
