The Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Office says two men are facing charges as a result of increased efforts to stop trash from being dumped in the county's remote rural cemeteries.

The sheriff's office said Monday that while one of its sergeants was conducting an extra patrol at Hayden Cemetery in Drakesboro about a week ago, two men were found illegally dumping trash.

According to the sheriff's office, the sergeant saw one plastic barrel being dumped along with three more barrels of trash in the men's vehicle.

25-year-old John Steel and 23-year-old Christopher Steele from Drakesboro were both charged with criminal littering, according to the sheriff's office. They're scheduled to appear in the Muhlenberg District Court on Nov. 24.

Anyone who has information on trash dumping in or around cemeteries in the county is being asked to contact Muhlenberg County Dispatch at 270-338-2000 or the Muhlenberg County Sheriff Office at 270-338-3345.

Wow!!!! It's cold!!!! After a trace of snow in Evansville and some highe amounts to the south, we're waking up to temperatures in the mid to upper teens across the Tri-State. Thankfully, road crews did a fantastic job treating the roads to keep conditions from getting slick. However, the northerly winds gusting as high as 15 to 20 mph has dropped wind chill values into the single digits and even below zero in our western communities. There won't be much of an improvement in temperatures this afternoon. With the strong northerly wind flow and dry skies our highs will only reach the mid to upper 20s. Winds will stay quite breezy keeping the wind chill factor in place through the day.
