Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden in Evansville, Indiana, says it's expanding its Community Membership Program to more families.
Since the program began in May of 2021, the zoo says it's seen over 500 households enroll, which accounts for 956 adults and 1,387 children and resulted in 763 visits to the Zoo this summer.
Due to the widespread popularity of the program, eligibility has now been expanded to all families in southwest Indiana, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky who are receiving SNAP benefits.
At its start, the program was only available for families receiving SNAP benefits in several southwest Indiana counties.
The zoo says a big factor in its ability to expand eligibility for the program was the Vintage Vines wine auction event, which raised $20,600 for the Community Membership Program alone.
