The Owensboro Police Department is investigating after several cars were struck by gunfire late Monday night.

According to OPD, officers went to the 300 block of Hale Avenue in Owensboro, Kentucky, around 11:30 p.m. on Monday night after someone heard gunfire in the area.

OPD says it was discovered that three unoccupied vehicles had been shot.

This shooting coming just a day after a 17-year-old boy was shot in Owensboro and taken to the hospital, and a resident of the area, who requested to remain anonymous, says he was outside on his porch less than 150 feet away when the shooting happened.

“It was an older car. It was a little car with several people inside of it. The car sped off.”

Residents in the area are especially disturbed by this shooting, due to how many children live in this neighborhood.

“I think it’s a terrible thing. You want your neighborhood to be safe, because after all, there’s a lot of kids that live up here.”

The anonymous resident says he believes the car the shots came from was an older navy blue or black car.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident but detectives are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with additional information can call OPD at 270-687-8888 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484.

The combination of sunshine and southerly winds will make for another abnormally mild day throughout the Ohio Valley - expect an afternoon high temperature near 69° this afternoon. Friday evening looks as though it will be just as pleasant; after seeing the upper 60s earlier in the day, we'll dip to 60° by 5 PM before falling towards 54° around 7 o’clock. We are however, watching a passing low pressure system and accompanying cold front that is expected to pass through the Tri-State late Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
