The Owensboro Fire Department says all residents of a home on Leitchfield Road were able to escape safely on Friday after the home caught fire.

OFD crews responded to a house in the 1700 block of Leitchfield Road on Friday after a caller said a fire had started in a bedroom inside the home.

The first crews to arrive on the scene found a heavy amount of black smoke erupting from the front side of the home.

As more crews began to arrive, OFD says it became clear that additional units would be required to operate safely.

Aggressive action from firefighters on the outside kept the flames from spreading to a neighboring home, while fire crews inside worked throughout different rooms of the house as well as the attic to stop the fire in its tracks.

Central Dispatch, the Owensboro Police Department, AMR, OMU, and the Red Cross assisted in stabilizing the incident and helping to guide the family toward assistance.

OFD says the cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
