The Evansville Sports Corporation said Friday that the Ohio Valley Conference Men's & Women's Tennis Championships were making their way to the River City.

In partnership with the Evansville Tennis Center, the Evansville Sports Corporation is bringing the Championships to Evansville from April 23 to April 25.

The Championships will be held at the outdoor courts at Wesselman Tennis Center with the Evansville Tennis Center serving as a backup indoor location in case of inclement weather.

The top four men’s and women’s teams will compete for the conference championship at the conclusion of the 2021 conference season.

“The OVC Tennis Championships build on a strong partnership established between the OVC Conference and the City of Evansville,” said Steve Schaefer, Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the ESC Board of Directors.

The Evansville Sports Corporation says that while this will mark the first time the OVC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships have been held in Evansville, it will be the 72nd contest of the men’s championship, which was first held in 1949. It's also the 46th holding of the women's championship, which was first held in 1977.

In 2020, the Ohio Valley Conference Men's & Women's Tennis Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's going to be a beautiful afternoon with highs topping out in the low to mid 60s. You better enjoy today because rain chances are moving in tonight. Unfortunately, they'll be sticking around for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will have pop up shower chances with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
