Police in Evansville are investigating a fatal crash that happened on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Evansville Police Department, officers were dispatched to the accident an accident with injuries at the intersection of Garvin Street and Chandler Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.


The Evansville Fire Department had also arrived at the scene and determined that the male driver of a pickup truck involved in the crash had died.
The Vanderburgh County Coroner on Thursday identified the man who was killed as 76-year-old Richard R. Atkins of Evansville.
Police say that at this time, it appears that Atkins was traveling north on Garvin approaching Chandler when he drifted to the left and struck the bed of a flatbed tow truck that was parked and unoccupied on the left side of the roadway, causing the bed of the tow truck to pierce the cab of the pickup.
EPD Crime Scene Detectives, as well as Adult Detectives, were called to the scene of the crash.
Atkins' autopsy is scheduled to take place at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
