Two arrests have been made after a shooting and stabbing that happened at an Evansville home on Sunday night.

Officers with the Evansville Police Department originally went to a home on S. Ruston Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night after someone called 911 and reported a fight involving a gun.

EPD says that while officers were on their way to the home, they found out that a man had been shot and another man had been stabbed. Police say both of those men were at the home when they arrived, and that they were both taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives say they learned that the man who was shot owns the home, and that he was in his bedroom sleeping when his two adult sons woke him up, confronted him, and began beating him up.

Police say an acquaintance of the homeowner, 20-year-old Markus Murphy, was there too, and that he helped the two sons beat the man unconscious.

When the victim regained consciousness, police say he tried to leave the home but that his two sons and Murphy blocked his path. They say he stabbed Murphy in the face while attempting to leave, and that that's when he was shot.

Murphy was treated for the stab wound and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges of Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, Confinement, and Intimidation.

Wow!!!! It's cold!!!! After a trace of snow in Evansville and some highe amounts to the south, we're waking up to temperatures in the mid to upper teens across the Tri-State. Thankfully, road crews did a fantastic job treating the roads to keep conditions from getting slick. However, the northerly winds gusting as high as 15 to 20 mph has dropped wind chill values into the single digits and even below zero in our western communities. There won't be much of an improvement in temperatures this afternoon. With the strong northerly wind flow and dry skies our highs will only reach the mid to upper 20s. Winds will stay quite breezy keeping the wind chill factor in place through the day.
