Only a Few Days Left in Owensboro Burger Week

Can the BBQ City master burgers? What about the Mexican restaurants? Burger week ends Saturday, March 6th.

"We're already almost sold out, and were only halfway through the week,"  says Max Gardin, Owner of The Brew Bridge.

Over in the Bluegrass, Burger Week is underway in Owensboro.

"6 bucks, 5 days, 24 restaurants, who can eat all 24? that's what I want to know," says Dave Kirk with Visit Owensboro.

During this week, 24 restaurants create specialty burgers, In hopes to be the champion at the end of the week. Visit Owensboro has selected a professional judging panel, that will be judging best burger of the year. Of the 24 participating restaurants, 22 are featuring burgers that aren't even on their menu.

But this week is more than just picking who has the best burger. This week is about supporting local restaurants who have been severely impacted by the pandemic.

Kirk says, "We wanted to do something that would put money in our local restaurants here in Owensboro, and get people excited to get back out and eat"

44News Spoke with some participating restaurants, who have already noticed an increase in sales.

The brew bridge says they sold over 200 burgers on the first day.

"We've noticed our lunches have been a lot busier and we've had more call-ins to see if you can get the burger," says Gardin.

Down the road at Don Mario's, Owner, Oralis Radilla says normally they sell about 5 burgers a week...

But since Tuesday, they have sold 70.

It was an absolutely gorgeous afternoon throughout the Tri-State, but despite our seemingly endless supply of sunshine today, temperatures remained more than 10° cooler than the norm for this time of the year. Fortunately, today's peak temperature of 65° represents our coolest anticipated afternoon high temperature through the remainder of our extended forecast. While it is indeed encouraging that temperatures will gradually rise through the rest of the work week into the weekend ahead, we'll still have to deal with temperatures back down into the upper 30s and low 40s early Thursday morning.
