Pediatricians at Owensboro Health are now anxiously awaiting their shipment of COVID-19 vaccines for children after the CDC announced yesterday the approval of the vaccine for kids aged 5-11.
On Tuesday, CDC's independent vaccine advisers voted 14-0 in favor of the child-sized doses of vaccine for younger kids
This opens the way for more than 28 million American children to get vaccinated, something pediatricians in Owensboro are happy to see.
“I was extremely excited, because we have all been waiting for this day," said Dr. Rebekah Booth, pediatrician at Owensboro. "I got vaccinated, myself, last Christmas Eve, as a healthcare worker. My husband was able to get vaccinated this spring, and for my daughter, who will be eight, I’m very excited that she gets to be next on the list.”
Booth said she’ll be scheduling her daughter’s vaccine appointment as soon as the shot are available in owensboro
She hopes many other owensboro residents will follow, and she said if anyone has any questions or hesitancy about vaccinating their child, they should reach out to their pediatrician to get all of their questions answered
Dr. Booth says you can expect the children’s doses to be here by the middle of the month, and then you can sign-up online at Owensborohealth.org to get your child an appointment.
