Owensboro Health has now vaccinated more than 10,000 people, and after receiving another shipment of vaccines, they're opening up even more appointments.
Owensboro Health is receiving 3000 doses of the vaccine this week which is allowing them to schedule more patients.
“So at this point we’re opening up another 100 slots per day here at the hospital," said Jason Collins, director of pharmacy at Owensboro Health. "That’s all online, so people can schedule through our online or through our app or through our website.”
People now able to schedule three weeks in advance.
Owensboro Health now planning to do more than 1000 vaccinations a week, and this news has people in the 1C group getting excited to be next in line.
“I absolutely want the vaccine as soon as possible," said Tina Lynch. "I work with volunteers who are all over the age of 65, and then if I expose myself, I run the risk of exposing my mom who is 93.”
Just last week, Owensboro Health had to put vaccine scheduling on pause, but now with these extra allotments, they don’t plan for that to happen again.
“We realized that we’re going to need to also watch our allotment and the number of patients coming through the door, so we don’t run out, so we were just doing that as a precaution to make sure that we did not make any appointments or commitments that we couldn’t keep," said Collins.
Collins also said he’s unsure when they’ll move on to phase 1C of their vaccine distribution, but Owensboro Health getting more vaccines helps them get closer to opening up to the next phase.
