Owensboro Health announced on Tuesday that they will be giving out their first COVID booster shots beginning Wednesday, August 18th.

A staggering set of numbers that continues to grow. So these booster shots coming at crucial time for the region.
But who is able to get this booster shot?
“For patients that have immunity-compromised conditions, such as receiving chemotherapy, any untreated HIV patients, anybody with an organ transplant, and there are a few other smaller categories," explains Dr. Francis DuFrayne, Chief Medical Officer of Owensboro Health.
Some of those other categories include people that are actively taking medicine that suppresses their immune system and those that have received a stem cell transplant.
The booster is only available to those that received a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine
DuFrayne said he expects healthcare workers to be next to receiver the boosters and then the general public to have the boosters available to them in about a month.
