The Daviess County Sheriff's Office arrested an Owensboro, Kentucky man on Thursday night after the Airport-Sorgho Fire Department says one of its firefighters was almost hit by the man while directing traffic at the scene of a crash.
According to the fire department, the firefighter was nearly hit while directing traffic at the scene of a crash at the intersection of Highway 81 and Keller Road.
Airport-Sorgho Fire Department said that thankfully, the firefighter, who was wearing a yellow traffic safety vest at the time of the incident, was able to jump out of the way to avoid the driver.
The fire department also says the firefighter had flashing emergency lights set up in addition to four additional flashing lights on orange cones blocking the roadway.
While the Airport-Sorgho Fire Department didn't say the firefighter was injured as a result of the incident, they said his personal vehicle was struck by the driver.
56-year-old Robert Williamson was arrested and booked into the Daviess County Detention Center on charges of felony Wanton Endangerment, DUI, and Failure To Yield To An Emergency Vehicle.
"We want to take this opportunity to beg everyone to not drive intoxicated and to please slow down and pay attention at emergency scenes," the Airport-Sorgho Fire Department said in a statement.
