The City of Owensboro's 42nd annual Farm City Breakfast has been canceled due to safety concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, city officials announced Thursday.
The event was previously scheduled to be held virtually on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, but due to the traditions of the event, like the local breakfast buffet, the decision to reschedule the event for 2022 was made.
In recent years, the event has drawn in a crowd of over 500 people, which is why the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 holding of the Farm City Breakfast was made by the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, Chamber Agriculture Committee, and the Daviess County Farm Bureau after much deliberation.
“Every year this breakfast lives true to its name – bringing the best of Greater Owensboro together from across the community," remarked Owensboro Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Candace Castlen Brake. “It was not an easy decision for us to postpone the event, but we want to be able to bring everyone together, physically and safely."
The Humanitarian Award, which is typically awarded at Farm City Breakfast, will be awarded at the Chamber’s Annual Celebration on Friday, May 14, 2021.
