The mayor of Owensboro is giving props to a local health official for his work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Owensboro Mayor Tom Watson presented Clay Horton, who serves as the Public Health Director of the Green River District Health Department, with the "Mayor's Award of Distinction"

The Green River District Health Department has provided COVID-19 guidance and updates throughout western Kentucky over the course of the pandemic.

It not only serves the Owensboro/Daviess County area, but six other counties including Henderson, Webster, Union, Hancock, McLean, and Ohio counties.

"I just can't tell the community how grateful we should be to have Clay Horton and his team down there," Mayor Watson said. "There's no telling where we'd be without you, and I just want to thank you."

Mayor Watson presented Horton with the award on Tuesday during the Owensboro Board of Commissioners meeting.

Scattered rainfall continues to affect portions of the Tri-State and it seems as though it will continue to do so through the remainder of the evening and overnight. After reaching an afternoon high near 80° earlier on, expect temperatures to gradually fall toward 70° by dinnertime before dwindling into the mid 60s by 10 o'clock. Overnight lows will dive all the way back down into the upper 50s by the predawn hours Wednesday; we'll fall to 58° in Evansville. The cold front and associated low responsible for all of our rain chances both today and tonight is expected to stall stall Wednesday, prolonging our isolated rain chances tomorrow, especcially for those of us north and east of Evasnville.
