House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to announce legislation to create a commission that would allow Congress to oust a president under the 25th Amendment. This comes on the heels of the President testing positive for COVID-19 and Speaker Pelosi saying President Trump appeared in an altered state after receiving treatments.
Pelosi has recently been suggesting that legislation is already in the works to invoke the 25th amendment. It would allow the vice president to become the acting president if it is determined that the president is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of the office". As of now only the vice president and cabinet can invoke that amendment.
Pelosi's bill would allow congress to establish an oversight commission on presidential capacity and its purpose would be to determine if the current president is fit for office. The bill would have to be passed by both chambers on Congress which is highly unlikely.
