EPD Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run After Body Found Near US 41 and Lynch Road

The Vanderburgh County Coroner has identified the body found near US 41 and Lynch Road on Thursday morning as a 74-year-old man from Owensboro, Kentucky.

The Evansville Police Department is investigating an incident as a fatal hit-and-run after a body was found near Highway 41 and Lynch Road on Thursday morning.

Around 6:50 a.m. on Thursday, EPD Officers responded to the area of Lynch Road and Highway 41 after a caller found the body in a ditch there.

After police arrived, they confirmed that the person was dead. 

On Friday afternoon, EPD said that the incident was officially being investigated as a hit-and-run.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner identified the victim as 74-year-old James Eugene Rich of Owensboro, Kentucky.

EPD said that before the discovery of his body, Rich was last seen at 1:40 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, March 18.

Rich's autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
