The Evansville Police Department has released the name of a man wanted in connection to a deadly hit-and-run that took place over the weekend.

EPD says 21-year-old Dylan Birdwell of Evansville is wanted on charges of Voluntary Manslaughter and Hit and Run Causing Death.

According to police, those charges were filed against Birdwell after witnesses said he was seen fighting with 39-year-old old Patrick Adams around 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10.

After that fight was broken up, witnesses say Birdwell got into his vehicle to leave the scene - but that's when the situation escalated.

Witnesses at the scene said Adams threw something at a vehicle driven by Birdwell's family member, and that Birdwell drove his own vehicle towards Adams and struck him with it. Witnesses said that Adams did not have a weapon and was not blocking Birdwell’s path of travel when he was struck.

Adams later died in the hospital from those injuries sustained in the crash.
