Posey County Sheriff's Office Deputy Bryan Hicks has made some positive progress in his road to recovery.

According to the Hicks family, Deputy Hicks has been moved from the Intensive Care Unit to an inpatient rehabilitation center where he's now undergoing intensive therapy.

The Hicks family says that while Bryan is making positive progress, the road to recovery will still be a long one with a lot of work ahead.

As we first reported in September, Deputy Hicks was shot in the head while conducting a welfare check at a home in New Harmony. The Posey County FOP said that Deputy Hicks required brain surgery due to his injuries.

Posey County Chief Deputy Jeremy Fortune told 44News, “Nobody has forgotten about him around here and we just pray every day that he keeps healing and the community continues to show their support.”

The suspected shooter, 70-year-old Paul Wiltshire, was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder in connection to the incident.

Since then, numerous fundraisers and giveback events have been held to support Deputy Hicks and his family, with the most recent event taking place in Evansville over the weekend and raising $3,000 to go towards the Hicks family.

“It's been overwhelming honestly. Every day, the Sheriff or I get hit up for a new fundraiser or somebody wants to donate something or pay for something or do something. It's not like anything I've ever seen. I've been here for 24 years and I've never seen the community come out this strongly for one cause, and it's really refreshing to see. Especially in times like this," Chief Deputy Fortune says.

The Hicks family is asking the community for their continued prayers for Bryan's recovery.

The passage of an overnight cold front will bring another shot of unseasonal cool air. Northwest winds will give way to raw conditions with windchills holding in the 30s through most of the day. Expect highs to top in the upper-40s under clear skies.
