Food, games, and a meet and greet with police officers -- a fun way for people to get to know leaders in their community.

The Posey County Sheriff's Office hosted their version of National Night Out.

The goal is to get kids and parents to meet the county's law enforcement officers and raise awareness for community policing.

An annual event, this year was one of the biggest for the county.

Residents like Jared Tepool, are thankful to have the chance to get to know those keeping them safe.

"It's really informed to just kind of get everybody in here to just kind of get to see your neighbors a little bit if you don't see them out and also we have the law enforcement that's been around," said Tepool. "They want to make sure that like hey you know, especially for the kids to make them feel comfortable with them around."

With many other cities across the country celebrating National Night Out, Posey County leaders were more than happy to provide this event and getting to know those in the community.

Monday morning, we will see partly sunny skies with temperatures still in the mid 20°s. By the afternoon, we will be warming up into the mid 40°s with cloud coverage increasing. This is due to a cold front expected to traverse the tri-state overnight Monday.
