Early Friday morning the Reitz R Men varsity club gathered at Helfrich hills for its yearly golf scramble which saw just under 2 dozen teams competing.
"We like to have a good time so, I think everybody looks forward to this year in and year out. We're very thankful for the sponsors that we have, especially throughout this year, it's a tough year for all the businesses that typically sponsor us, we're very thankful for their support," said R Men Board of Directors member Brian Claybourn.
But this event isn't just about having fun, the R Men have multiple events to raise money for Reitz senior student athletes.
"What the R men's varsity club is it's a group of guys and females that get together and raise money. That's our whole purpose, the whole reason we're around so, we have various fund raisers throughout the year, to raise money to give money to Reitz senior athletes," said Claybourn.
With the cancellation of the spring sports season, the R Men believe it is important now more than ever to do their part to student athletes.
"It's been an interesting year obviously and it threw a few curveballs for us from our typical schedule and the way we run things as far as what we do and the money that we disperse. Nothing has changed for us. We give out 36 thousand dollars a year in scholarships to senior athletes so we actually had our vote on that on Monday so the names and money will be going out here pretty soon," said Claybourn.
