Virtual learning will continue at Rockport Elementary School in Rockport, Indiana, due to the high number of students and staff currently in quarantine due to COVID-19.

The school's principal says virtual learning will continue from Monday, Aug. 23, until at least Friday, Aug. 27.

The school had transitioned to virtual learning last week when about 40% of its staff was either ill or in quarantine.

As of Monday at the start of the virtual learning period's extension, the school said that number had increased, with about 50% of students and staff in quarantine.

The school intends to return to in-person learning on Monday, Aug. 30, with masks and social distancing in place.

In the meantime, teachers will be sending out virtual learning schedules, and any school families in need of lunches for their kids can pick up food bags in the front lobby of the school.

We woke up to dry and cold conditions this Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, there won’t be any drastic changes this afternoon. Increasing cloud cover will be likely as a cold northerly flow continues ushering in chilly air. Highs won’t be going very far, we’ll likely only reach the mid to upper 30s Tri-State wide. We’re tracking a little bit of winter weather out to our north and west. Skies will be mostly cloudy tonight with a chance of flurries/light rain. It won't be a big snow by any stretch, but you could see some flurries flying Tuesday night into Wednesday morning around the Tri-State. Don't expect more than a dusting, with greater chances falling north of I-64.
