Salt, shovels, and sleds all very hard to come by this week.

If you missed the run on the those three staples of winter weather, you're not alone. Most hardware stores are out of essential items like ice melt and shovels. Supply is also low on sleds and just about anything that pairs well with a snowstorm.

Some of the big stores, including some of the small ones, like Ace Hardware in Evansville, have been swamped with customers looking for other items like firewood, generators, and heat lamps.

"It started on Friday with news of the weather coming and it got crazy right away," said Cory Garrison, Ace Hardware store manager. "I mean, we were taking calls, we were extremely busy all weekend, so we definitely saw a lot of business, a lot of panic buying, and it was just crazy."

Store officials say they're hoping new shipments arrive sometime in the next few days. However, some of the more popular items may not be back in stock in time for the next snowfall expected next week.
