With a blazing 15:15 5K, Jackson Watts has the top ranked time in the state of Kentucky.
"I never to be where I'm at right now," said Madisonville North Hopkins Senior Jackson Watts. "Even with the work that I've put in but it obviously feels amazing to see that work pay off and everything and it's just a blessing to be where I'm at right now."
"As a dad I'm so proud of his work ethic, not just his times, but how hard he works to get those times," said Madisonville North Hopkins Cross Country Coach Michael Watts. "That's what means the most to me is the effort he puts in to it. He's reaping the benefits of himself. I can give him the numbers and I can give him the workouts. He does the work. That's what it boils down to."
The 1st team all state selection doesn't just run past the competition, Watts also shines in the classroom. The senior holding a 4.05 grade point average.
"Jackson displays a lot of the qualities of a runner as a student in the classroom," said Madisonville North Hopkins AP Mathematics Teacher David Stubblefield. "He's really hard working. He's determined, he's persistent. He always wants to do his best and be very successful and he is very successful in the classroom as well."
When hes not lacing up his shoes to run or studying, Watts can be found in the Madisonville community. The youth group member involved in 9 different clubs and activities.
You don't want to have all of your things in one basket it so to speak but you want to get out and be involved," said Watts. "Basically just build yourself and make yourself a better person."
"The sky is definitely the limit for Jackson," said Stubblefield. "But also as a student whatever major he decides to major in and a job that he wants to pursue later in life I'm sure that he'll be very successful at that and do a very good at that in his lifetime."
