It seems to be a family tradition in the Steinhart family to play college sports. Over at Mt. Vernon, Libby Steinhart will continue the path of becoming a collegiate student athlete, as the senior will be playing volleyball at Lipscomb next fall. Before she heads south, the Wildcat has earned one more award, as Libby is our very first scholar athlete of the week in 2020.
A three sport athlete who has made a killing on the volleyball court, Libby Steinhart has joined exclusive company, as one of the only Wildcats to have 1000 digs and 1000 kills.
"I feel like I owe it to my team to always do my best because they're out there doing their best as well," said Steinhart. "We work hard together and that's how we are successful."
"She sets the bar for how hard we work, and seeing how that bar is so high it just pulls the rest of the team up and they play hard because of that," said Mt. Vernon head volleyball coach Megan DeVault.
The aces don't only come on the volleyball court, plenty of them are in the classroom as well. Steinhart has a flawless 4.0 GPA.
"My parents have taught me since I was young to always do my very best at everything," said Steinhart.
"She's one of those girls that knows how to get it done and she is determined to be the very best that she can be," said Mt. Vernon English Department Chair Vicki Rueger.
When she's not busy hitting the books or winning games for the Wildcats, Steinhart can be seen in the Mt. Vernon community. The class president is involved in 11 different clubs and activities.
"All I try to do is put in effort wherever I go and make the most of it," said Steinhart. "I think having two older brothers growing up really helped to make me tough and do my very best at everything."
"She's so multi talented and faceted and has that drive and that energy and that quest for excellence that no matter where she is or what she's doing she's going to do it to the best of her ability and for her that ability is sky high," said Rueger. "So I'm expecting great things from Libby for the rest of her life."
