The Evansville Fire Department is called to a Saturday house fire.

Officials say they were called to the 3000 Block of Broadway Avenue shortly before 1:30 p.m.

Fire officials say the homeowner call 911 after he smelled smoke, burning plastic, and saw flames coming from the kitchen.

EFD says smoke and flames were visible from the West and South windows on the first floor when firefighters arrived.

We're told the fire spread to the second floor and attic area.

Officials say crews were able to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire which originated in the kitchen area.

EFD says the home is occupied by ten people, (2 parents and 8 children) along with 10 dogs, six snakes, five rabbits, and one cat which died.

The owner was home with one of the children at the time and was able to evacuate.

Investigators ruled the fire started in the kitchen and the stove was the cause.

The fire has also been ruled as accidental.

EFD says all 10 occupants are displaced at this time.

The American Red Cross responded to help.

No injuries were reported.

The combination of sunshine and southerly winds will make for another unseasonably warm day throughout the Ohio Valley - expect an afternoon high temperature near 69° this afternoon. Some areas could even see temperatures well into the 70s. Friday evening looks as though it will be just as pleasant; after seeing the upper 60s earlier in the day, we'll dip to 60° by 5 PM before falling towards 54° around 7 o’clock. We are however, watching a passing cold front that is expected to pass through the Tri-State late Friday evening and early Saturday morning. We won't see any rain from this front, but it will cool temperatures into the low 40s by Saturday morning.
