Showplace Cinemas says it's making some major upgrades at its theaters in an attempt to get the public back in and watching movies on the big screen.

Showplace is currently in the planning stages to renovate the East location and will be adding bowling, laser tag, a full arcade and redemption center, as well as a new bar and food service to go along with a remodeled lobby and bathrooms.

Construction has already begun on the lobby at the North location, which will include a new box office, concession stand, full arcade with a redemption center, and new bathrooms. The Henderson location will also be getting a full arcade and redemption center.

According to Showplace Cinemas, the Showplace East, North, and Newburgh locations, will also get new state-of-the-art laser projectors that will offer the brightest and sharpest pictures possible on the big screen.

Many of the theaters are also getting things like new paint jobs, carpet, roofs, and more. Additionally, the parking lots at East, North, Newburgh, Connersville, Henderson, and Harrisburg, will all be resurfaced and striped in the coming weeks.

We're told the new upgrades will also bring a name change from Showplace Cinemas to Showplace Entertainment.

No official timeline for each project has been released, but you can keep up with Showplace on its website or Facebook page.

The combination of sunshine and southerly winds will make for another abnormally mild day throughout the Ohio Valley - expect an afternoon high temperature near 69° this afternoon. Friday evening looks as though it will be just as pleasant; after seeing the upper 60s earlier in the day, we'll dip to 60° by 5 PM before falling towards 54° around 7 o’clock. We are however, watching a passing low pressure system and accompanying cold front that is expected to pass through the Tri-State late Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
