Sinkhole Closes Part of Washington Avenue in Evansville

A portion of Washington Avenue is expected to remain closed through late Wednesday after a large sinkhole developed in the area.

A portion of Washington Avenue in Evansville is currently closed due to a sinkhole in the area.

Washington Avenue is currently closed between S. Elliot Street and S. Garvin Street.

Officials tell us the road should be open by late Wednesday, April 7.

The sinkhole developed on the westbound lane of Washington Avenue but its cause is currently unknown.

Multiple crews are on the scene doing repair work. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area if possible.
