Last year, Larry Owen was working a factory job at Aleris when the pandemic hit causing him and his coworkers to be laid off for weeks, and with that extra time, Larry took to the kitchen to work on his lifelong love of pizza making.
“I bought a small pizza oven from one of the local gas stations that was going out of business, and I started making pizzas at the house, and it went over well with some friends of mine," said Larry Owen, owner of PeezO's Pizza.
Friends and family clamoring about Larry’s unique pizza, and that’s when he took to social media to show off his creations.
“We posted it on social media, and it just went from there," said Owen. "We got a big response, and it was a really overwhelming response.”
Hundreds of people responding online and buzzing about getting to try the pizza for themselves, and Larry capitalized on his pizza's popularity.
“I was overwhelmed," said Owen. "No plans on a restaurant, but when you’re hot, you’re hot. People pushed for it and wanted it then, and I didn’t want to revisit it at a later date when everyone had forgotten about it, so I just went all in. All my savings and everything.”
And what makes PeezO’s Pizza so special, is the secret homemade sauce that’s under all the delicious toppings.
“I make a homemade sauce, and it’s unique, and it’s very popular," said Owen. "I used to travel for work, and I ate a lot of pizzas at a lot of places, and I would go home and create my own. Put the things that I like from different restaurants together to help create what’s now considered my sauce.”
PeezO’s just launched their lunch service, and is open 7 days a week, so if you’re on the West side of the 'boro, you’ve got to check out this local gem.
