Inclement Winter weather changing more than just class schedules for some schools.

Sorgho Elementary had originally planned to have their "Because We Love You" event on Wednesday, February 10th, but due to poor weather conditions, that book giveaway has been rescheduled to February 24th.

The event invites students and family members of Sorgho Elementary to drive through the school parking lot to pick up a free from a Sorgho teacher dressed as their favorite book characters.

“Normally at this time of year, Sorgho Elementary School would host special events to invite students to bring a guest, someone they love, to school for a ‘Because I Love You’ event sponsored by the Family Resource Center," said Laura Cecil, Sorgho Elementary School principal. "We have also traditionally hosted ‘I Love to Read’ activities for families during the month of February. The pandemic has prompted us to re-imagine those events while still promoting two things we love: Reading and our families!”

Families in line will also receive materials to create glitter jars designed to promote ways to stay calm and relaxed while at home.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day across the Tri-State; temperatures climbed back into the upper 40s low 50s area-wide earlier this afternoon. Evansville‘s afternoon high temperature of 49° was our warmest in nearly a week. As for the evening ahead, temperatures will be relatively stable as a breezy southerly wind continues to bolster the mercury throughout the region; temperatures around 42° at dinner time will only fall as low as 41° by midnight. An inbound cold front moving in overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning will begin to generate chances of rainfall as early as the predawn hours on Wednesday.
