The Bottom's About to Fall Out

A passing cold front will drive temperatures drastically lower across the Tri-State over the next 48 hours.

It’s hard to beat days like today. Not only did we see plenty of sunshine throughout the morning and afternoon, but we dealt with temperatures between 5° and 15° above the norm for this time of the year; today’s peak temperature of 67° marks our warmest in nearly a week. Fortunately, the evening ahead looks just as pleasant - the combination of southerly winds and added cloud cover will keep temperature stable throughout the evening and overnight hours. In fact, we’re only expecting to see an overnight low of 57°. That’s two whole degrees above our average high temperature for November 17th!

Unfortunately, the mild start to our Wednesday comes at a cost - in inbound cold front is not only expected to perpetuate the overcast skies here in the Tri-State, but will begin to push rain chances into the region as early as our lunch hour in spots. We’ll see increasing rain chances during the ensuing hours before seeing a full-on rainfall event settle In around dinner time. The latest model data indicates the rainfall may hang on through the overnight hours and even in the early Thursday morning. By the time it’s all said and done, some of us could be looking at nearly an inch of additional rainfall.

The worst part of all this however won’t be the rain, it’ll be the whipping winds in falling temperatures. As the rain falls across the Tri-State Wednesday evening, winds are expected to gust as high as 25 to 30 mph at times. As the cold front pivots to our east, temperatures will begin the fall throughout the Ohio Valley; after seeing a high temperature near 69° on Wednesday afternoon we'll be faced with a temperature more than 40° cooler by early Friday morning. We'll wake up to a morning low temperature in Evansville on Friday morning of just 27°! Sure to make the most of the mild weather while it lasts.

Monday morning, we will see partly sunny skies with temperatures still in the mid 20°s. By the afternoon, we will be warming up into the mid 40°s with cloud coverage increasing. This is due to a cold front expected to traverse the tri-state overnight Monday.
