The Heat Is Here To Stay

Temperatures will continue to reach the 90s moving forward.

Today was our hottest afternoon in Evansville in two weeks! Our peak temperature of 93° was the highest recorded in the River City since August 12th; worse yet, dew points in the low 70s made it feel more like 100° to 105° area wide. The evening ahead doesn't look all that comfortable either - after only falling to 82° by 10PM, we'll bottom out at 74° along the Ohio River early Thursday morning, setting the stage for another scorcher of an afternoon. As of right now, the latest model data is suggesting that Thursday looks as though it will be even hotter than our midweek!

Morning lows in the mid 70s and a breezy southerly wind flow paired with an ample supply of sunshine through the first half of our Thursday will allow temperatures to reach 94° for many of us. Additionally, that opprsssive humidity will continue to make things feel a whole lot hotter throughout the Tri-State; “feels like” temperatures are expected to approach 105° at times tomorrow afternoon. The combination of heat and humidity will also fuel the development of some showers and storms beginning early tomorrow afternoon. The greatest likelihood of storm chances will occur between 1PM and 7PM Thursday.

Unfortunately, our Friday looks just as hot - afternoon highs up and down the Ohio Valley are expected to surpass the 90° mark for the fifth straight day. We’ll hit 93° that afternoon in Evansville with a heat index around 102°. While we may see some additional showers and storms that afternoon as well, most (if not all) of the rainfall will have dissipated by dinner time. That’s good news for those of you wanting to make it out to a football game on Friday night - kickoff temperatures should be around 85°, but the “feels like” temperature for most games will still be around 90° at that point.

Winds will gust as high 35 MPH through the afternoon. The stronger southerly winds will assist in milder afternoon highs. Temperatures will max in the upper-50s and low-60s with partly cloudy skies. Rain will be arriving by 3AM Thanksgiving morning.
