The Illinois Department of Employment Security has confirmed a new scheme that fraudsters are using to file for unemployment compensation.
An analysis found that they were applying for unemployment benefits using personally identifiable information of certain identity theft victims and including fake employer addresses in their applications.
Fraud notices have been sent out by The Illinois Department of Employment Security, containing personally identifiable information, were then sent to the addresses fraudsters claimed were employers.
The Department will notify any victim impacted as they are reported to the Department.
Individuals who inadvertently receive such notices containing personally identifiable information are asked to call The Illinois Department of Employment Security at 800.814.0513.
