The Evansville Thunderbolts hockey team and its coaching staff have announced that Austin Plevy will be the 7th captain in team history for this upcoming season.

The team has also named Hayden Hulton and Brandon Lubin as assistant captains.

Plevy makes his return to Evansville after a stint with the Knoxville Ice Bears during the Thunderbolts' 2020-21 pause in play due to the pandemic.

According to a statement from the Thunderbolts, Plevy became the first player in league history to be awarded both Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player honors in the same season.

Plevy accomplished that amazing feat after scoring 17 goals and 65 points in just 45 games. The upcoming campaign will be Plevy's third season in the league.

The coaching staff decided to promote Hayden Hulton to the assistant captain role.  Hulton tallied 3 goals and 12 points while also playing in all 46 games in the 2019-20 season.

Meanwhile, Brandon Lubin will become the only player in franchise history to will skate in each of the Thunderbolts' first five seasons.

The Thunderbolts open the 2021-22 home season against the Quad City Storm on Friday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m.

The combination of sunshine and southerly winds will make for another abnormally mild day throughout the Ohio Valley - expect an afternoon high temperature near 69° this afternoon. Friday evening looks as though it will be just as pleasant; after seeing the upper 60s earlier in the day, we'll dip to 60° by 5 PM before falling towards 54° around 7 o’clock. We are however, watching a passing low pressure system and accompanying cold front that is expected to pass through the Tri-State late Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
