Trial Date Set for Woman Charged in Evansville Rape-Murder Case

A woman charged in connection to a gruesome rape-murder case that unfolded at a home on Stinson Avenue in Evansville is scheduled to stand trial.

A trial date has now been set for a woman charged in connection to a gruesome rape/murder investigation out of Evansville, Indiana.

A jury trial is scheduled to be held for 36-year-old Heidi Carter on Monday, June 13, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. 

Carter was arrested back in October following the incident, which unfolded at a home on Stinson Avenue

She was charged with murder, rape, and confinement, after authorities believe she helped her then-boyfriend, 46-year-old Carey Hammond, rape a woman and kill a man.

In the latest information released on the case, police say they believe there may be victims of other crimes committed by Carter and Hammond. They're asking any additional victims or anyone with information on the two to come forward.

Carter's trial date was set on Tuesday morning during her review hearing. A pre-trial conference will be held on May 17 at 10:00 a.m.

For now, she remains in the Vanderburgh County Jail on no bond.

It was another cool, though overall pleasant day across the Tri-State - after only seeing temperatures dive as low as 22° early this morning, peak temperatures ended up climbing a few degrees higher than Thursday's; that being said, Evansville’s high temperature of 27° Was still 15° below average for this time of the year. As for the evening ahead, temperatures will gradually fall for 23° around dinner time back down to 19° by10 PM. A weak northerly wind flow most of the night paired with our crystal clear skies will cause temperatures to of fall back down into the mid to low teens once again - Evansville's anticipated low temperature of 12° will mark or coolest since the morning of January 7th.
