Two people were killed in an Ohio County house fire over the weekend.

Emergency crews responded to a home on Adaburg Tower Ln. in Hartford, Kentucky, around 12:40 a.m. on Sunday.

The Hartford Fire Department says when fire crews arrived on the scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames and residents were still inside.

Assistant Fire Chief Tim Griffin says a deceased woman was found by the back door of the home, where firefighters were able to make entry, about 10 feet inside. A male victim was later found deceased inside the home's kitchen.

The victims were identified as 38-year-old Jessica Morris and 37-year-old Douglas Witt III.

A third occupant of the home was able to escape out of a bedroom window and call 911. He was transported to an Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire remains unclear at this time. The investigation into the fire's cause has been turned over to the Kentucky State Police.

Responding agencies include: Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, Fordsville Fire Department, Hartford Fire Department, Whitesville Fire Department, Ohio County EMS, Ohio County Emergency Management, and Ohio County Coroner.
